SLJ week 4, day 5

SLJ, Winter Learning Journey
Day 5: Looking into the Future
Activity 1: Your Future Self

It may be hard to imagine, but one day you will graduate from high school and it will be time to decide what to do next. You may want to study at university, become an apprentice, go to training college, travel, or start working. There are so many options!

Take a minute to think about your future. What would you like to do when you finish school? Would you like to work in a specific job? Would you like to study at university? What would you study? Maybe you’d even like to move overseas. Share your thoughts and ideas on your blog site. There are no wrong answers!

When i graduate High School i would love to go to University and study on Engineering. My dream job is to become and Engineer, i would love to work, study and fix cars.

Activity 2: Flying Cars

Let’s imagine that you’ve just learned to drive, and your family has decided to buy you a brand new car. You are allowed to choose from any of the following designs:

flying car (2).jpg

On your blog please tell us which of the three cars you would choose and why.

I would pick the second vehicle because it's a lot bigger and it's more stronger than the other cars. When i drive i would love to take my family to many different place's and the car i chose has more seats than the other cars.

Bonus Activity: Blade Runner 2049

There is a new movie out in cinemas at the moment called Blade Runner 2049.

It is a movie about what the world will be like in the future. Imagine that you able to travel through time and that you can see what the world will look like in 2099.

On your blog write a description of what New Zealand will be like at that time (80 – 90 years from now). What kind of houses will people live in? What will they eat? Where will they work?

80 - 90 years from now, people would probably live in metal houses and their would be mansions on every street. The people would eat new invented foods and probably some old 2017 foods as well. People would probably be inventing robots as their job, people will get paid to make robots and sell them. People would buy the robots to do what ever they want them to

  1. Kia Ora Salote,

It is great to see that you are blogging so actively this summer. Awesome work! I have been working in the background this summer, reading posts but I haven't been able to comment as much as I would like. Today I finally have the chance to sit down and write to you.

I particularly enjoyed reading this post as I found it so interesting that you are planning to study engineering at university. My brother-in-law, Andrew, is a civil engineer and he loves his job. He was recently asked to create a torch (The Centennial Flame) for the city of Ottawa (in Canada) that could never be extinguished. He had to use all of his skills and all of the knowledge that he had gained in university to figure out how to develop a flame that would burn constantly (even through a snow storm or a rain storm).

I can't wait to see what you will learn at university and what you will be able to build once you finish. It sounds like you are really interested in working with cars. That's a great idea as we will, likely, always drive cars and will be in need of your expertise!

I hope that you have enjoyed the Summer Learning Journey programme this year. I am really looking forward to seeing you at Glenbrae early in Term 1 when I come in to hand out the prizes and certificates.

    See you soon!!

    Rachel :)

Well done on completing the Summer Learning Journey! You have done so well throughout this whole programme.

I think the car that you have picked is a great one. It does look very strong as well as it looks big. Great Job!

Wow! Engineering would be an amazing job! I am sure that you will pursue your dream of become an engineer!

Once again, well done on completing the summer learning journey and have an amazing holiday!
